Are you stuck playing the same beats over and over and don’t know what to do next? Brian Frasier-Moore’s ‘two-bar repeat’ concept can help you with your creativity.
Here’s what you do:
Bar 1: Play a beat
Bar 2: Repeat the last beat
Bar 3: Play a different beat or theme
Bar 4: Repeat the last beat
Bar 5: Etc.
Your mind has to move quickly enough to focus on what you just played, while creating what you’re going to play next. It gets easier as time goes on – try this non-stop for a few minutes.
This exercise can help you break away from your existing repertoire and allow you to create something new. As Brian says in the video, “The longer you go, the more that you find out about yourself.”
