Every drummer has their own list of influences that pushed them to start drumming and continue to practice and improve – even the legendary drummers we know today. It’s always interesting to hear our guest artists talk about their inspirations since each list is so unique. You start to notice small subtleties in their playing that you can link back to the drummers they look up to.
Dennis Chambers has an extensive list of both older and younger drummers that he draws inspiration and ideas from. Drummers such as Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, and David Garibaldi are some obvious choices, but some others may surprise you!
It’s so important to constantly explore and find new things that push you. If you ever feel you’re in a rut and don’t feel like practicing, revisit your original influences and become inspired!
