Russ Miller comes from a generation of drummers who all grew up playing in bands. Playing music all the time and constantly communicating with other musicians teaches you a skill that sitting alone in a practice room won’t: the ability to execute music on a high level. In fact, Russ makes the argument that some of the skills you need to develop to become a better musician are potentially contrary to what makes a good “drummer”.
Music is a language. The best way to learn a language is to practice speaking with other people.
